India is a country of sages-saints and pir-fakirs. The people here have a lot of respect and reverence towards the saints. Some hypocrite saints take advantage of this feeling, while some true saints respect this feeling and put their lives at stake to remove all kinds of sorrows and pains of the devotee. Saibaba of Shirdi is one such saint.
It is said about Saibaba that if you bow your head at his samadhi filled with devotion towards him, then whatever kind of problem you have, it will be solved immediately. When Saibaba accepts your devotion, He informs you about it in some form or the other.
Sai is neither a Hindu nor a Muslim, he is just a baba who removes the sorrows and pains of his devotees. Sai Baba’s clear message is that if you look at me, I will look at you. I will not let my devotee suffer any kind of trouble in life.
It is not a miracle to remove the sufferings of his devotees, but his devotees consider it as a miracle. Saibaba showed many such miracles during his lifetime, due to which some people considered him as a part of Ram and some of Shyam. Sai devotee Dattopant: A resident of Harda village in Madhya Pradesh, Dattopantji was a great devotee of Saibaba. He was suffering from stomach ache for about 14 years. He got all kinds of treatment done but his pain did not get resolved. Hearing about the fame of Saibaba, he also reached Shirdi to have Baba’s darshan.

He put his head at Baba’s feet and said that Baba, this stomach ache has troubled me so much that I am not able to bear the pain anymore. I did not commit any crime in this life. May be it is some sin of my past life, which is still haunting me.
Baba looked at Dattopant lovingly and put his blessing hand on his head and said that you will get well. Then Baba also gave him Udi. With Baba’s blessings and Udi Prasad, he recovered completely. Then he never got any disease and sorrow in future. It is also said that ‘the first happiness is a healthy body’.
Gopalrao then narrated the incident of the morning and the agony of his mind.
Ramu said that I understood. You do one thing, go to Shirdi with me right now. Gopal said that no man, not now, you stay here for two-four days, then you will go. Ramu insisted that no, we have to walk now. Then both reached Shirdi.
It was sunset time. Diyas were being lit in the Dwarikamai Masjid. Saibaba was sitting on the platform in the mosque. Many disciples were sitting near him. Only then both Gopal and Ramu entered the mosque together. Seeing both, Saibaba smiled and said, Come Gopal, come Ramu. You both are too late. You had left at 10 in the morning.
Both Gopal and Ramu paused and looked at each other. Then he went ahead and touched Baba’s feet. Lifting both of them above their feet, Saibaba said that today both of you have touched the feet together. They have stepped into the mosque together as well. I wish that the wishes of both of your hearts get fulfilled together. Then Baba said to Siddhiki standing nearby that Siddhiki has heard that you have a lot of experience to recognize a man. Can you tell which of these two is Hindu and which is Muslim?
After looking carefully, Siddhiqui said that Baba, I can see both Hindus and Muslims. Today my old eyes are deceiving me. Baba said that you are right Haji Siddhi. Both of them are Hindu as well as Muslim. I also want that their form should remain like this.
Ramu’s real name was Ahmed Ali, but he changed his name to Ramu. Baba blessed both of them and assured them that their wishes would be fulfilled. Exactly 9 months after Baba’s blessings, shehnais rang at both of them and their wishes were fulfilled. Both again reached Baba’s court. Both of them touched Baba’s feet and requested Baba that from today Hindu and Muslim festivals should be celebrated together in Shirdi. Baba accepted his request and it started with Ram Navami.
